I almost screamed for ice cream

It's almost tradition in Jamaica to have some sort of sweet treat after Sunday dinner. For those of us in Kingston, that usually entails a visit to the world renowned Devon House I Scream Shop for ice-cream. Kids and adults alike beam with excitement as they ramble through their head debating what flavour to get? Personally as grown as I am the process is usually an arduous one. I take into consideration the ice-cream colour, ita ingredients, is it a flavour I've never tried or should I just get my usual...decisions, decisions. Alas, I usually end up choosing the same flavour, grapenut, 92% of the times I go there which totally negates the mind debate I go through to make my final decision (LOL).

Now, going to Devon House on a Sunday, especially any time after 4pm can be likened to rush hour traffic. Bumper to bumper traffic as persons wait for parking and not to mention bumper to bumper lines as persons wait ever so patiently to get a little "cream". I don't know why I thought last evening would have been different. I had luck in finding parking, but mercy...when I made my way to the direction of the ice-cream shop can I tell you the line was essentially at the car door. I gasped, I frowned, I almost screamed...yuh know when yuh mind just set on something and you want what you want because you made up your mind that you want it? Well that was me...BUT, I did not make up my mind to spend minimum 45 minutes to get ice-cream that I would devour in less than 10 minutes. With that said no ice-cream *gently wipes away falling tears*, but my taste buds and belly were not about to be totally disappointed. The Devon House Bakery right next door was more my speed, not a long wait with plenty of cakes and other fine pastries to feed my sweet treat need. Without hesitation and with a smile on my face I proudly said to the server "one slice of Double Chocolate cake, please and thank you". Yesss, victory was mine! If I couldn't eat ice-cream, borrowing from Marie Antoinette, "let me eat cake", and that I did. As I got back to the car, before even turning on the ignition or power locking my doors, I busted open that cake container and took a bite into heaven. Jamaican tradition maintained and I had my sugar fix. The tip of my tongue, not to mention my tummy were quite pleased. Sunday was a success !

Please add Devon House to your list of places to visit when in Kingston, in the meantime visit their website and start getting familiar. http://www.devonhousejamaica.com/. It's no mistake that it was voted as the fourth best place in the world to eat ice-cream by National Geographic. Cop a read of this article as proof. (http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/magazines/food/Fourth-Best-Place-In-Fourth-Best-Place-In-the-World-To-Eat-Ice-Cream-Is---).

Until next time...

What to eat now?

It's minutes to 7 on a Saturday night and I cant help but think about what to eat right now? I feel the hunger pains creeping up and this bottle of water is not hitting any spot right now. I don't know about anyone else but Friday and Saturday have long been designated as "Eat a street nights" in my household. The kitchen is completely off limits until its time to prepare the classic Jamaican Sunday dinner which signals the beginning of another week. With that said, tonight is looking like a straight "pantucky night", for my non Jamaican followers that translates to chicken cooked on the roadside in a metal barrel converted to resemble a barbeque grill of sorts. Can I say deeeeeliscious. I tell the chicken man bathe it in ketchup and pepper (with a smile on my face as I say it) and then I use those moist two slices of white bread to sop up the excess as I devour that tasty leg and thigh. OK, I'm done writing, my mouth has officially started watering. Whatever you eat tonight make it tasty, your tummy will 'preciate it. Leg and thigh, the tip of my tongue awaits!

Is this a joke??

Hello world, this is my first ever post anywhere *deep breath*, now here goes. So on the tip of my tongue today is the fact that one of the leading mobile service providers here in Jamaica yesterday credited the accounts of their loyal (emphasis on loyal) customers who went through withdrawal some time last week or maybe it was the week before, as a result of the world wide Blackberry “meltdown”. This left users in every corner of the earths surface without service. Imagine, some persons were without the mighty BBM, email and other data services for up to 5 days !!! Here’s where things become funny… I get a text message saying something to the effect of your account has been credited with $70.52 JMD *stares blankly at msg*. My next thought was “should I be jumping for joy about this, dare I say, compensation??” OR “Is this a joke??” Now anywhere in the world that you are, feel free to do your conversion because that is a straight insult, that cannot even buy credit/calling minutes as the minimum cost of a phone card here is $100 aka bills. I should be glad though, some people got $37.59. Here’s my advice to that leading mobile service provider, next time nuh bodda !
